Yesterday’s Disaster

Well, disaster is probably too harsh of a word to use for yesterday. Hurricane Katrina was a disaster, Chernobyl was a disaster… yesterday was a personal disaster, I guess. And even for that, it wasn’t really THAT bad. So, what’s this all about? Well, the moral of this story is that sometimes life gets in the way of training and being a good vegan. Protein, Protein, Protein!

I consider myself a “professional label reader” to make sure there are no dairy, eggs, or other hidden ingredients that are not vegan. However, now I also look at the Nutrition List on all of the food items as well. It has been over a year since I thought this much about protein. I have kept a log for the past couple of days to approximate how much protein I’m taking in. For my weight, I figure I need to consume around 80-90 grams of protein/day. First week back – I’m ready!

This past week is my first official week back at training. I’m already talking incessantly about my protein intake and having dreams of racing. Last night I dreamed that the end of a half Ironman was really confusing and I kept getting lost. Just before the finishing line I had to run by a cliff and Caillou (my running buddy and canine companion) fell down and was hanging on by the least.
