I started this blog in 2006, the summer that I signed up for Ironman Canada. I had been a triathlete for only 3 years, but back then when I did something, I REALLY did something! It was fun and exciting and a direct product of my mental illness. As far as a mental illness is concerned, doing triathlons was a pretty healthy outlet for myself.
In 2019 I was the healthiest I’d ever been in my life. Mentally I was stable and physically, I had finished a two-year cycle of training and racing that included finishing Ironman Coeur d’Alene and a post-Ironman summer of shorter triathlons and a half Ironman. It was part of my plan to become healthy enough to begin my journey as a single mom by choice.
In the short, but long years, between 2019 and 2023, I bought a house, got pregnant, gave birth during a pandemic, changed jobs, started a new relationship, and had a mental health crisis. The phrase I use to describe this time of my life is Constantly Shifting.
Near the end of 2023, I revived my writing and began writing some works for this blog. One of the inspirations for this is the journey my friend is on to become vegan. They are on a fixed income and there is no room for waste or error. They are meal planning and asking questions. It made me go back to my early days of being vegan and my commitment to being healthier to myself and the earth. The mom of a toddler brings many challenges, including finding foods that my child will eat while being healthy and tasty.
My revived writing journey brought me to a local coffee shop that doubles as a spin studio. In the spirit of support of the business I started to take spin classes and incorporate that into my work at the coffee shop. Other than my home, the coffee shop became my writing space, which is where I am currently writing this piece. I am confident the journey from 2024 will continue to be interesting and my forthcoming blog posts will continue to be filled with colourful and interesting pieces of information and personal anecdotes.
