3 easy ways to have fun on the bike trainer indoors!

This week is the first week in a long time that I’ve been following a training plan. I have created a plan and am slowly adjusting my life around work and training. For the next 10 months my fun is going to be swimming, biking and running. Luckily, I’m very much enjoying these again and actually think of them as fun. Isn’t that what sports are all about? Having fun! I’ve had to figure out how to make this off-season training fun. The biggest struggle I’ve had with winter training is the indoor cycling on the trainer. I’ve never minded … Keep reading

Race Report: Frank Dunn Triathlon 2016

Another year of the Frank Dunn Triathlon! This was my 11th year of completion. I had absolutely NO IDEA how it was going to go. I figured it wouldn’t be pretty, which is basically how it turned out. Something I haven’t done in many many years is race without my GPS watch. I forgot it at home so was left with just my regular ol’ wristwatch with the ability to time me at least. Caillou's sunny spot

Today I ran with my healthy dog to the community garden to pull weeds and then play a round of disc golf with my honey. As I was running home I thought about last year at this time and how I was a miserable person on crutches and unable to do much of anything. 2015 was a shit-storm in general, but it ended well and 2016 has been pretty darn good so far! I have about 4 blog posts saved that I started in the past couple of months, but none of them seemed to be really accurate about where … Keep reading

When I stand on one foot I wobble; balance is not something that comes easily to me. When I get on my bike, though, it takes a lot to push me over! Right now I have imbalances that are creating turmoil within my body, mostly in my muscles. The first step to solving a problem is identifying it, right? This summer, as you may remember from my incessant whining, I broke my left foot. I have always had issues with my left IT band and knee, which likely contributed to the rolling of that ankle and the impending break. I spent 6 … Keep reading

Make Plans, Achieve Goals

Make goals, make plans

It is the beginning of January, the time of promises and good intentions. I like to make plans. I’m very good at making plans, I’m not very good at executing plans. So what is my plan? My plan is to achieve my goals. That is my number 1 goal for 2016. It is possible to achieve it if my plans are reasonable. Over the past few years I have set myself up for failure. I’m just not able to do what I used to be able to. My mental illness, medications and focusing on stability takes a lot of my … Keep reading
