Being a Woman Athlete

Sometimes being a woman athlete isn’t easy. There is usually one day a month that swimming just isn’t an option on that day. One time I raced on that day and it was NOT pretty. Nobody else noticed, but I was completely freaking out the day before (luckily my woman training buddy helped calm me down and was very supportive – remember that Nav?). On the week before a woman’s menstrual cycle begins, she can be a little bit… hmm… hormonally-charged. I don’t like using the word “emotional” because that implies things like crying, over-reacting, etc. I also don’t believe … Keep reading

Do not underestimate dehydration!

Today my friend and I went for a run and accidentally* ran off-and-on for two hours (we shopped in there for about 20 minutes). It was -27 degrees Celsius with the windchill (about -20 without it) and we had planned for a 30-45 minute run. I had eaten at 5:30am and we started running around 9am. By the way, we ran a little over … Keep reading

It’s funny because I felt like I was hitting my stride at about lap 8 of the swim, the last kilometre of the bike, and about lap 11 of the run (although I was getting tired for the last lap because I sprinted trying to keep up with the girl in … Keep reading

Another week in review

I am really starting to get back into training, which means that I’ll be updating more often from now on. Last week, I was on the road with work. Luckily, there was a gym in the hotel I was staying at so I worked out every day I was there. I didn’t do a lot, but it was better than nothing! On Saturday, I did an hour on my trainer at home while watching some Sex and the City. I’m hoping to increase the time on my trainer from now until spring, which is April 1st according to my personal … Keep reading
