This coming up weekend I am excited to be an Ironman Coeur d’Alene volunteer! It will be the first time I will have volunteered at Ironman. For the past year I have been stressed and beginning to train for this race. As you readers will know I pulled out a couple of months ago because I was just not ready.
After transferring my registration to Ironman Silverman 70.3 (a half IM) in October, I knew that I was still going to have to go to Coeur d’Alene. On one hand I shake my head at myself because I rented a house that I can’t sublet, but on the other hand I’m excited to go and not have to race. Even though I’m not racing, I am still going to be working hard volunteering all weekend, with shifts on race-day from 6am to 12:30am, and then 7am the next day.
I am extremely excited to experience Ironman from the other side. I’m also glad to have an extra year to “deal with” the idea of Ironman Coeur d’Alene. In the last year I have been so lucky to connect with some great people from all over North America via our Facebook group. When I say something about “my friend doing CDA” my beloved asks, “Is this a real friend or a Facebook friend?” I answer with, “My real Facebook friend!”
The excitement for this week might be heightened because of two things:
1. We booked our trip to Las Vegas for Ironman Silverman 70.3! We found a hotel room near the strip with a kitchenette, which I’m so excited about. Then I looked at the calendar and realized that it is only a little over 3 months away! Holy F****… that’s 12 weeks. I felt a burst of adrenaline and know that I have to pick it up a notch. More on that in another post.
2. I learned that my two Ironman buddies from Saskatoon are going to sign up for IMCDA 2015! The three musty steers will be together again! The last time all 3 of us did IMCDA was in 2009 and only one of us finished. This time we are ALL going to finish! However, I’m not signing up for the race until after Vegas because I want to make sure I still love this crazy sport.
Over the next week I will document my trip on Twitter and Facebook. So watch my blog for updates on that! I’m so excited for my Real Facebook Friends who are getting prepared for this weekend’s race!
